About Clotrimazole 1%
Clotrimazole 1% is an azole antifungal — the same active ingredient as Lotrimin® AF cream. Azoles block an enzyme fungi need to make ergosterol, a building block of their cell membranes.
The Medi-First® label states that it cures most athlete's foot, jock itch, and ringworm, and relieves the itching, burning, cracking, scaling, and discomfort that accompany them.
It is one of the most widely studied topical antifungals and is often what a pharmacist reaches for when someone simply asks for athlete's foot cream.
Using it well
- Wash and dry the area, then apply a thin layer over and slightly beyond the rash twice a day, as the label directs. Labels typically run 4 weeks for athlete's foot and ringworm and 2 weeks for jock itch.
- Wash your hands after applying to avoid spreading the infection.
- If there is no improvement after the labeled period, see a doctor; the rash may not be fungal.
See a doctor for
No improvement after 2 to 4 weeks of use as directed, scalp or nail involvement, broken or oozing skin, diabetes or a weakened immune system.
